Some tips for our international friends

We’re terribly sorry, but with over 230 acts, it is impossible for us to make the entire website available in two languages. And then there’s the fact that this might not be entirely useful, as some lectures will be given in Dutch only. But do not worry! There’s still plenty of stuff for you to see, taste, hear and experience on May 24. And that is why we will provide you with a clear overview of which lectures and performances you will be able to enjoy in English.

First of all, it is important to point out that you will be able to go to all music and dance performances, as there will be a distinct lack of language barrier there, seeing as music and dance are universal languages, right? There are cool concerts in the auditorium of the Groninger Museum, the Usva’s attic, the Engelse Zaal in the Academiegebouw, Academie Minerva on the Zuiderdiep, the Grand Theatre and also some great concerts in the Der Aa-kerk (and even a very special, non-timetabled extra concert by Tangarine). And last but not least: all the free concerts on the Vismarkt! For dance performances, go to the Groninger Museum (Club Guy & Roni), the synagogue (Unblocked) or the Academiegebouw (Brainwave). Can’t wait? Then have a listen to our Spotify playlist!

Then there’s all the cool exhibits incorporating interactive art and science, waiting for you to get your hands on it, for everyone to visit and most scientists and artists attending will speak English. For example, the science expo in the Der Aa-Kerk, lots of interactive art at both the Academie Minerva locations (Zuiderdiep and Preadiniussingel) and the Proeflab (Test Lab) at the Academiegebouw, where you can perform all kinds of brain tests. At the Usva, Groningen University Theatre Society GUTS is going all out with a brilliant magician (and more) and at the University Library you can craft cool stuff and test an Oculus Rift, while enjoying a beer. What’s more to like? At the Usva, the basement has been turned into an art & science gallery with all kinds of wicked experiments. Like we said: plenty to do! And we haven’t even mentioned the Promenade and all the other en route activities, performances and exhibitions yet.

Still have some energy left? Then here’s two more tips for you: the Groninger Museum will be open during The Night and has some beautiful exhibitions in store (like one on 400 years student life in Groningen) and then there’s the afterparty at Vera!

Then there’s the large number of lectures given in English:
